The gym operators are aiming to make their apps a go-to source for rewards, challenges and chances to earn points to keep members engaged long term

Chuze Fitness and In-Shape Family Fitness are innovating their in-house app offerings to include rewards and challenges.

Now, Chuze members will be able to access rewards programs, challenges and more as part of a broader initiative designed to boost motivation and engagement. In-Shape is also implementing its own app rewards program.

To implement the tech, both operators are leveraging a new partnership between fitness technology consulting firm AltaDX and customer loyalty platform Perkville.

The push comes as the operators look to improve member retention and long-term engagement, with Chuze and In-Shape creating online ecosystems that keep members connected with their unique offerings, programs and rewards.

“Bringing rewards, referrals and challenges into our mobile app has helped make the program more accessible and visible for members,” said Chuze chief revenue and marketing officer Cheryl Barnett. “We have seen a meaningful impact on member engagement, challenge participation and referrals by making these experiences a native part of the Chuze app.”

The native in-app offerings means members don’t have to create another login or visit a separate destination to access their club’s perks inside the same app they’ve been using to check in, book classes, manage their membership and stay connected with the brand.

“We are excited to bring the full loyalty and referral experience into the In-Shape mobile app,” said In-Shape Family Fitness chief marketing officer Kris Mulkey. “Our goal is to make it easier for members to engage with rewards, challenges and referrals in one place, while creating a more connected experience across our digital channels.”

Looking ahead, other operators that take advantage of the AltaDX-Perkville partnership can enhance their apps with loyalty programs, in-app friend referrals, challenges, opportunities to earn points and redeem rewards without leaving the gym’s app.

For AltaDX and Perkville, this is just the beginning of their journey — the brands plan to utilize AltaDX’s AI capabilities to automate more of the loyalty and rewards operations over time, like helping operators automatically apply eligible rewards to member accounts to create a more seamless experience for members and staff.

The tech brands are also looking to improve how operators follow up with their members to maintain engagement through the power of AI. One potential improvement would be to send personalized messages that encourage a member to complete a challenge, thank them for referring a friend or remind them that their referred friend has not visited yet.

“Member engagement improves when the experience is simple, visible and part of the daily member journey,” said Perkville CEO Sunil Saha. “AltaDX has helped fitness enterprises deliver industry leading referral, rewards and challenge experiences to their members by natively integrating Perkville into mobile apps.”
