The 20-minute format blends yoga, Pilates and barre-inspired movement as the fitness franchise looks to take electrical muscle stimulation beyond strength training.

BODY20 is expanding its workout lineup with Tone, a low-impact class combining electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) with elements of yoga, mat Pilates and barre.

Set to launch August 20, the 20-minute class represents an effort by BODY20 to reach consumers who prefer controlled, low-impact movement but may be unfamiliar with EMS training. It also gives existing members an alternative to the brand’s strength-focused sessions.

Tone begins with a three-minute yoga-inspired calibration period, followed by 15 minutes of Pilates- and barre-style movements targeting the core, arms, legs and glutes. A two-minute guided stretch closes the session.

Participants wear BODY20’s wireless Dry Tech EMS suit, which uses built-in electrodes to deliver electrical impulses to major muscle groups as they exercise. Coaches can adjust the stimulation by muscle group and according to a participant’s fitness level and comfort.

“Tone allows us to bring that same technology into a completely different movement experience,” BODY20 CEO Lindsay Junk said, adding that the format is intended to complement rather than replace strength training.
