Based on data offered to Athletech News and compiled by Wefranch, a software company that offers tools for franchise businesses, these are the fitness chains with the largest presence across the U.S. The data below was indexed by Wefranch based on website information, franchise disclosure documents and public filings for franchise and multi-location businesses, and is accurate as of February 2026. 9. Workout Anytime credit: Workout Anytime Coming in at 196 locations throughout the U.S., primarily in the Southeast, this high-value, low-price (HVLP) gym franchise is open 24/7, providing round-the-clock access to its facilities, as well as recovery amenities like HydroMassage and red light. Last year, Workout Anytime added fresh executive firepower and new franchise development to support its goal of doubling its already substantial footprint in the next five years. 8. 24 Hour Fitness credit: 24 Hour Fitness A popular mid-priced operator, 24 Hour Fitness now stands at 240 locations in the U.S. The brand recently made headlines when founder Mark Mastrov announced he would be returning as owner after partnering with LongRange Capital to acquire 24 Hour Fitness. The operator is investing in remodeled locations equipped with upgraded equipment, general managers certified in personal training, dedicated recovery zones and select locations offering reformer Pilates studios. 7. Snap Fitness credit: Snap Fitness Snap Fitness, another 24-hour operator, comes in at seven on the list with 473 locations. While the mid-priced fitness franchise has cemented its popularity among U.S. consumers, Snap Fitness recently unveiled a new luxury 24/7 concept in London as it expands in the U.K. market. The new concept offers a mix of boutique fitness, group training and recovery. 6. Crunch Fitness credit: Crunch Fitness It’s no surprise this HVLP giant is in the top nine, with 569 U.S. locations after several years of major growth. Last year was a breakout year for Crunch Fitness, and the brand is only hoping to magnify its footprint even more, announcing its plans to accelerate expansion and add 100 new locations worldwide in 2026. 5. F45 Training credit: F45 Training Global boutique fitness franchise F45 Training‘s 45-minute, high‑intensity functional group training format is proving to be popular, with 724 locations across the country. To drive more engagement, F45 unveiled its own loyalty program, FIT Rewards, to keep members motivated and enable studios to offer hyper-local perks like discounts at a nearby cafe or smoothie bar. It also just announced its own hybrid fitness competition. 3. Orangetheory Fitness credit: Orangetheory Fitness Group fitness franchise Orangetheory Fitness has taken off among American consumers, with 1,283 studios nationwide. To boost its appeal and capitalize on the fitness-racing boom, Orangetheory teamed up with Hyrox last year to become an official affiliate partner, turning select studios into spaces made for training in a format modeled after its fitness-racing structure. 2. Anytime Fitness credit: Anytime Fitness Another 24/7 operator, Anytime Fitness has outdone nearly all of its gym competitors with a whopping 2,298 locations throughout the U.S. The franchisor’s ambition transcends American consumers, as the world’s largest gym brand with over 5,000 global locations — and Anytime is only continuing its ambitious international expansion campaign. The Minnesota-based gym franchise made major moves last year to expand across the Middle East, opening its first location in Dubai and signing a master franchise agreement to bring more than 60 gyms to the country over the next six years, with both women’s and men’s branches in various cities. 1. Planet Fitness Planet Fitness in Grand Haven, Michigan (credit: Ohana Growth Partners) It’s no surprise that Planet Fitness claimed the top spot for most locations in the U.S., with a total of 2,731. Amid what the franchisor is referring to as the “golden age of fitness,” Planet Fitness ended 2025 with 20.8 million members, 181 new clubs and a 6.7% same-store sales increase. At the beginning of the year, the HVLP operator pointed to strong member-retention numbers as Planet Fitness pushes toward more domestic and international expansion, signaling the success of low-price gyms while economic uncertainty continues.
