The premium fitness operator is leaning into community-building with three different workout formats across several NYC parks as people crave in-person wellness

Chelsea Piers Fitness is bringing communal movement outdoors across New York City in its weekly class series.

The gym-operating arm of sports giant Chelsea Piers first launched the series in April, giving people the opportunity to experience its signature group fitness programming through community-driven classes that help people get outside.

The program will run through November, with three main formats to choose from:

  • Yoga at Harbor Point Boardwalk on Sundays or at Hudson River Park on Thursdays for a mid-intensity signature yoga flow
  • A 3-5 mile run club at Fort Greene Park on Tuesdays or at Little 6th Avenue Plaza on Saturdays
  • AMP’d, Chelsea Piers’ total-body, high-intensity interval training class with bodyweight strength and cardio exercises, at Fort Greene Park on Mondays, on the turf of Hudson River Park on Tuesdays or at Brooklyn Bridge Park on Wednesdays.

Chelsea Piers partnered with Fort Greene Park and Hudson Square Business Improvement District to ensure the run clubs could be open to the public as well as members, improving community outreach into the boroughs.

The series reflects an industry-wide push for in-person fitness and community building, which the brand has been tapping into for years already. Chelsea Piers Fitness has run classes in Brooklyn Bridge Park for about 6 years, and in Hudson River Park for 3 years. Every spring through fall, the brand also hosts over 250 free public classes across Brooklyn, Manhattan and Stamford, Connecticut.

As New Yorkers soak up the sun while sweating it out in Chelsea Piers’ classes, the brand is preparing to open its newest club in Lower Manhattan.

The 50,000-square-foot club is slated to open in the second half of this year, situated in the Hudson Square neighborhood, taking up an entire city block. There, members will have access to four boutique-style group fitness studios running roughly 100 weekly classes at opening (including infrared yoga and HIIT) alongside strength and cardio floors outfitted by Life Fitness / Hammer Strength and Peloton, multiple turf zones for functional training and boxing, and a co-ed contrast therapy suite.

Chelsea Piers Fitness also has plans to enter Long Island City and Jersey City.
