Adidas x Rheon uses material tech to boost athletic performance Adidas has partnered with Rheon Labs as part of its commitment to the sport of training, creating a new Techfit control apparel collection with Adidas‘ material constructed with Rheon intelligent polymer. Rheon, based in London, has developed a technology that allows its energy-absorbing polymer to remain soft and flexible while stiffening when subjected to force. Rheon Labs says it arose from a NASA project and was developed over several years at Imperial College. “Years ago we began a journey. Hours of research, biomechanics testing & countless iterations, to deliver a technology that will shape a new era of performance. When we unleash our full potential, we can achieve the impossible,” Rheon Labs posted about its new partnership with Adidas. The Adidas x Rheon Labs collection has a tech aesthetic and is intended to be worn during athletic training, with DNA material providing responsive control as the body moves while remaining unrestricted. Reactive TPE strands, boasting RHEON technology, are featured across major muscles, adapting to movement to enhance support. The Adidas x Rheon leggings also feature breathable material with low to medium compression from the waist to the ankle. Rheon Labs says its brand’s mission arose from a biomechanics lab when realizing that athletes would want the most efficient and responsible support possible without any limitations. Rheon Labs’ head of technology, Roman Chaika, described the company as an energy control solution provider in an interview with BikeBiz last year. In addition to its Adidas partnership, the company has expanded into the cycling space. “We look into the areas where kinetic energy needs to be controlled. In the cycling space we primarily concentrate on impact energy and we have a very big history around developing technology for any sort of helmets and protecting the brain,” Chaika explained. The Adidas Techfit Control collection is now available on adidas.com and in Adidas stores. All products featured on Athletech News are independently selected by our editors.
