Amid the rapid rise of wellness tourism, WITT has unveiled the first global wellness accreditation for hospitality professionals
As demand grows for more wellness-oriented travel, the global organization Wellness in Travel & Tourism (WITT) has just launched the first wellness accreditation for hospitality professionals seeking to improve health-focused travel experiences.
The WITT Accredited Professional (WITT AP) credential certifies individuals who develop, manage and influence wellness-centered guest experiences across hospitality locations.
The accreditation is based on WITT’s Five Pillars of Wellness — healthy eating, holistic healing, movement, nature and local impact — as well as its Core Wellness Standards for Hotels, unveiled last year.
Those standards were the first global framework designed to help hospitality properties integrate authentic wellness practices and stand out in a crowded market. The Core Wellness Standards are intended to give guests confidence that a property’s wellness offerings meet independently verified criteria, helping them avoid what WITT and the Wellness Tourism Association labeled “wellness-washing.”
“Hotels don’t achieve meaningful wellness on paper alone — it’s driven by people,” said WITT founder and CEO Robin Ruiz. “The WITT Accredited Professional credential recognizes and empowers the professionals who bring wellness to life for guests, while building a global community aligned around shared standards and best practices.”
Hospitality professionals across disciplines can take advantage of the program, which is designed for hotel and resort leadership, spa and wellness directors, operations and rooms leaders, food and beverage teams, meetings and events professionals, hospitality consultants, developers, architects and students specializing in wellness hospitality.
Participants who complete the program earn the WITT AP designation, including a professional certificate, digital credential badge and listing in the Global WITT Accredited Professional Directory, a new industry resource for hotels, brands, owners and partners seeking qualified wellness expertise.
Accredited professionals will also have access to continued professional development and resources, annual renewal and future global networking opportunities.
Wellness tourism was one of the biggest trends to emerge in 2025, taking multiple forms as travelers seek out more fitness and mind-body experiences.
Airbnb predicts that this year, more people will opt for nature-focused trips — notably to national parks — while Under Armour is getting in on the wellness tourism boom with the launch of its own fitness cruise this January.
