The Australian functional fitness franchise is launching Revl Underground, a new pop-up race concept that combines high-intensity competition with music, food and nightlife-inspired elements. The inaugural event will take place September 3 at a secret location in Sydney’s Inner West, with the address revealed to competitors just 24 hours before the race. Limited to 48 racers, Revl Underground features a short-form race built entirely around ergs and conditioning, with no more than four stations and a 30-minute time cap. Men’s singles, women’s singles and mixed doubles divisions will compete throughout the evening, with $1,000 awarded to the winner of each division. A DJ and local food and drink partners will add to the atmosphere, with Revl drawing inspiration from the gritty aesthetic and spontaneity of underground music and pop-up culture. “We never set out to build an off-the-shelf fitness brand,” Revl CEO Josh Mildren said. “Revl Underground is an extension of that — taking the performance and competition our community wants and building an experience around it that feels distinctly Revl.” Mildren added that the concept brings the brand’s “edge and grit” together with music and culture, which he said have long been part of Revl’s identity. The new format comes as fitness racing continues to surge globally, led by Hyrox and joined by a growing crop of competitors looking to put their own spin on the category. For Revl, racing is increasingly becoming an extension of the studio experience itself. The brand already hosts Studio Games for members at the local level and offers dedicated Race Prep programming and its Revl Pace Program for athletes preparing to compete in outside fitness races. At the top of that ecosystem sits Race The Globe, Revl’s annual flagship competition. This year’s event is set for October 24 in Brisbane, with more than 700 athletes expected. Revl says more than half of the event’s capacity was filled within 24 hours of tickets going on sale, following a pre-sale that sold out in under three hours. The competition builds on the success of Revl’s inaugural global fitness race last year, which drew more than 450 athletes and over 1,000 spectators to Adelaide and landed Whoop as a partner. Sydney will serve as a testing ground for Revl Underground, but the concept could eventually travel much farther. Revl says it plans to use the first event as a blueprint for future Underground races across its global studio network. That network has been expanding. As of late 2025, Revl operated 46 studios across Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Dubai, while eyeing further expansion into markets including the U.S. and U.K. The company has also been courting independent boutique fitness operators as part of a consolidation strategy that allows existing studios to convert to the Revl brand and gain access to its programming, technology, marketing and member ecosystem.
