As it chases FDA clearance for sleep apnea detection and develops a predictive AI agent that factors in everything from late meals to elevated stress, Eight Sleep enters China to bring rest to a sleep-deprived country

Eight Sleep isn’t letting anyone lie awake counting sheep.

On the heels of a $50 million strategic round that valued the company at $1.5 billion and AI models trained on more than 1 billion hours of sleep data, the sleep tech brand is headed to China in its biggest market push yet.

The company sees massive white space in a region where more than 300 million people suffer from sleep disorders, according to the Chinese Sleep Research Society.

“We created the sleep fitness category more than a decade ago with a simple belief: sleep would become one of the most important frontiers in human performance and health,” co-founder and CEO Matteo Franceschetti said.

Shipping will be available across China, with white-glove delivery in Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing and Guangzhou.

Eight Sleep has bigger ambitions than selling a smart mattress system across the globe. Beyond tracking sleep, heart rate and heart rate variability, the company is now pushing into regulated health territory, filing with the Food and Drug Administration for sleep apnea detection and mitigation capabilities.

On the horizon is a predictive AI agent that anticipates disruptions and intervenes before they occur, optimizing the sleep environment for users based on factors like room temperature, a late workout, a large meal or elevated stress.

The moves follow a strong 2025, when the company reached free cash flow positivity and launched three new products led by the Pod 5, which bundles temperature regulation, automatic elevation, ambient soundscapes, zero-gravity positioning and contact-free cardiovascular monitoring.
