The brand just landed $13 million in funding — led by BDC Thrive, BFG Partners, and supported by BAM Ventures, Founder Collective, Rejuvenation Ventures and HSR Ventures — to support its fertility products for both men and women. Bird&Be is aiming to shift the narrative around men in particular, its co-founder and CEO Samantha Diamond revealed to Athletech News. While much of the onus has historically been placed on women to optimize their health when starting a family, growing research is showing just how integral men’s health is to the process as well. Diamond pointed to sperm quality as one of the key determinants to a healthy pregnancy — something that starts from the inside out. Bird&Be currently offers an at-home sperm test with results sent to users’ phones within 15 minutes. “You will know right away if you have a problem,” Diamond said. “Historically, men have been a bit more hesitant to set foot into a clinic. If they see that those results need some work, they know that they cannot delay, and they have to get in front of a reproductive endocrinologist or a urologist.” Once men have a better understanding of where their fertility health is, they can opt to try out Bird&Be’s Power Pack, a mix of vitamins and antioxidants to support sperm quality and improve motility. Diamond pointed to the brand’s three clinical studies which showed that of men diagnosed with infertility, their sperm motility increased by 52% over three months. credit: Bird&Be The brand has experienced noteworthy growth since its launch, becoming an eight-figure company in its first three years with nearly 100% year-over-year growth and 75% of revenue coming from subscriptions. Bird&Be has also doubled down on expert-backed support, growing its clinician-referral channel 200% year-over-year as more than 10% of customers now come from a healthcare provider recommendation. Diamond is hoping that the upward trajectory of Bird&Be will continue, if not only for the health of men, then for relieving some of the burden placed upon women when starting a family. The company has brought in numerous doctors and medical experts to help educate consumers through its platform and across social media, helping them understand both men’s and women’s involvement throughout a fertility journey. “They are normalizing the fact that men are involved in the process of starting a family,” Diamond said. “From a public health perspective, if there is no intervention with education, we have a problem, and that’s part of the reason why we exist at Bird&Be,” she continued. “We’re not going to wait for the government to catch up. We’re going to take it into our own hands and ensure that we’re educating with doctors.” The brand also offers female-specific fertility support across every stage of the journey — conception, egg freezing and IVF, menstrual cycle, pregnancy and postpartum — including prenatal supplements, fertility testing and ovulation tests.
