The move folds two major training services into Garmin’s ecosystem, integrating customizable coaching experiences for endurance, strength and performance-focused athletes. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. TrainingPeaks is widely used by coaches and athletes for prescribing workouts, planning, tracking and analyzing training, syncing data from power meters and GPS wearables like Garmin and Apple Watch to provide advanced insights on fitness, fatigue and performance readiness. “TrainingPeaks and TrainHeroic share Garmin’s passion for empowering athletes and coaches around the world with world-class training tools, performance metrics and actionable insights,” said Garmin co-chief operating officer Brad Trenkle. “The addition of these highly successful platforms to the Garmin ecosystem will expand access to more authentic coaching experiences — connecting athletes with professional coaches who guide, motivate and inspire them to reach their goals,” he added. The deal also included the acquisition of TrainHeroic, a digital fitness platform and mobile app more focused on strength and conditioning training. Coaches, teams and athletes can plan, log and analyze workouts with features like percentage-based programming, max-effort tracking and an integrated marketplace where coaches can sell training programs. Garmin appears to be pushing deeper into fitness, looking to capture a wider fitness crowd beyond its core base of runners, cyclists and triathletes. Its biggest move yet came this week with the launch of its new screenless wearable, the Cirqa Smart Band. The band, which monitoring activity and health metrics like sleep, stress and vitals such as heart rate variability, skin temperature, blood oxygen saturation and VO2 max, serves as a clear competitor to market leader Whoop.
