Now, the software is catching up. OPS Run has officially launched a digital platform built specifically for run clubs, giving organizers tools to manage members, schedule runs, communicate with runners and support brand partnerships as once-informal running communities become increasingly sophisticated operations. The platform has already signed up more than 100 clubs across over 25 North American cities, including 50 that joined in recent weeks ahead of its public launch. OPS Run is targeting an operational challenge created in part by the run club boom itself. Many clubs that started as grassroots communities still rely on combinations of group chats, generic event platforms and broader community apps, even as their memberships and event calendars grow. “Run clubs have become an incredibly important part of how people experience fitness, wellness and community, yet the people building them remain underserved,” OPS Run co-founder Matty Christopherson said. “They’ve spent years creating culture, identity and belonging from the ground up. They shouldn’t have to fit themselves into technology built for everybody else.” OPS Run lets organizers publish runs, handle registrations, manage members and communicate directly with their communities from one platform. Clubs can also feature brand partners, collect voluntary member contributions and sell paid experiences, potentially creating new revenue streams for organizers. For runners, the platform functions partly as a discovery tool. Users can find clubs and upcoming runs and view details including pace, distance, location and weather before registering without downloading an app. The platform emerged from Christopherson’s own experience with the category. In New York City, he ran with 45 different run clubs over 30 days to better understand how organizers were operating their communities. The founding team subsequently conducted research with clubs across North America. Sara Cathcart, an OPS Run founding team member and market growth lead, also leads Alo Run Club and Equinox Run Club in Vancouver, giving the company another direct connection to the communities it’s building for. “Every club is different, but the conversations with organizers are remarkably consistent,” Cathcart said. “They want tools that make running the club easier without changing what makes their community theirs. The technology should sit behind the culture, not become the culture.” OPS Run founders Sara Cathcart and Matty Christopherson (credit: OPS Run) The opportunity comes as run clubs increasingly extend beyond traditional training groups, becoming social communities and gathering places built around fitness and wellness. For organizers, that growth can also mean managing hundreds of runners across disconnected systems while navigating relationships with brands and the costs associated with running a club. OPS Run is free for clubs and runners. Its monetization tools allow organizers to collect voluntary contributions and charge for certain experiences while providing infrastructure for brand partnerships. “Our mission isn’t to make every run club bigger,” Christopherson said. “It’s to give the people who built these communities the tools to make them sustainable while protecting the identity and culture that made people want to be part of them in the first place.” OPS Run is also taking its concept offline with a Run Clubhouse at Runningman Festival in Georgia from Sept. 18-20, coinciding with Global Run Club Day on Sept. 19.
