These Are North America’s Most Wellness-Obsessed Cities in 2025

A new ranking scored cities based on their concentrations of fitness studios, gyms and spas, as well as online wellness sentiment

Some cities stay up late, others wake up early for Pilates.

There’s a clear shift underway, where getting a healthy glow and a full eight hours of sleep are the new humble brag rather than bottle service or partying until the wee hours of the morning. Add in the growing crossover between personal care and wellness, and the pursuit of feeling good has become a lifestyle in itself.

Several North American cities are leading the charge, according to new findings from Betway Casino, which analyzed TripAdvisor and Brandwatch data. The analysis scored cities on yoga and Pilates studios, gyms, spas and online wellness sentiment to produce a final Wellness Score.

And if you’re a brand angling to tap into the movement, it’s worth knowing where the action is. Here’s how it’s currently shaking out:

1. Santa Monica, California (94.10)

Long synonymous with sun, surf and self-care, the numbers confirm Santa Monica’s foothold. The California city boasts 56 yoga and Pilates studios per million residents, 88 gyms and 107 spas and wellness centers per 100,000 people. It also just welcomed Move Studios, a new boutique concept blending Pilates, yoga and trampoline-based “rebounding” classes, joining Tracy Anderson’s Privé and EGYM-powered Fred Fitness.

2. Miami, Florida (77.63)

Miami lands in second, with 77 gyms and 75 spas per capita. Beyond being the birthplace of JetSet Pilates, it also earned bragging rights for its boutique fitness scene after The Fit Guide awarded the city with its top ranking worldwide in pre- and post-class services.

3. Boulder, Colorado (73.65)

In third place is Boulder, Colorado, proving wellness isn’t exclusive to the coast with 74 yoga studios and 75 gyms per million residents. It’s also a place that is seeing rising demand for infrared sauna and red light therapy, which Perspire Sauna Studio will address with seven new locations across Colorado, including Boulder.

Best of the Rest

Scottsdale, Arizona and Honolulu, Hawaii, round out the top five. Scottsdale’s 83 spas per 100,000 residents make it one of North America’s recovery capitals, while Honolulu’s 86 yoga studios show a place where mindfulness and movement are part of daily rhythm.

North of the border, Quebec City leads Canada’s wellness charge with a Wellness Score of 67.83 and a staggering 144 spas per 100,000 residents, the highest spa density in North America. Vancouver follows closely at 66.15, powered by its outdoor recreation offerings.

The Betway findings tell a somewhat different story than this year’s American Fitness Index from the American College of Sports Medicine, which ranked Arlington, Washington, D.C., Seattle and Denver among the fittest U.S. cities. Both lists highlight the growing investment in health, but they also reveal how fitness and wellness can follow separate paths.
