Two paths most operators consider Until now, most fitness brands have had just two viable strategies to expand beyond exercise into personalized longevity, nutrition and recovery solutions. The first is adding more familiar faces: building out teams of coaches, clinicians, or other human experts consumers already trust to deliver tailored one-to-one care. The second is to embrace one of the growing number of AI-powered, one-to-many coaching platforms. Both approaches offer advantages, but each has limitations that are hard to ignore. Perhaps the biggest: neither is fully aware of what’s happening inside members’ bodies or how to react to it. Tradeoffs either way Between teams of bandwidth-limited experts and AI-driven coaching platforms, many operators are finding that neither model enables them to provide tailored, rigorous health guidance across their membership base. Human experts can deliver something technology still struggles to replicate: judgment. A physician, dietitian or coach can recognize subtle warning signs through interactions that build trust. But that headcount is difficult to scale. Every new team member has to be recruited, onboarded, and managed. AI offers efficiency. LLMs can track and analyze strength, mobility, balance, body composition and cardiovascular performance, then automatically adjust programming as members improve. As many fitness brands are discovering, two members can follow identical training programs and achieve completely different outcomes because of differences in things like their metabolic health or recovery capacity. The more transparent the guidance, the more confidence members will have in acting on it. For brands assessing the accuracy and credibility of different technological solutions, Sellam recommends vetting potential partners on how they embed scientific rigor in the personalized guidance they generate for users. In the meantime, he also suggests capturing as much member demographic, behavioral and biological data as possible upfront. “The value of any future model will be dramatically increased by the right intelligence partner, their datasets, and their trust strategy.
