The NFL legend was appointed chief wellness officer of telehealth platform eMed earlier this year, his latest move in wellness. In a recent interview with Fox Business, Brady made it clear how much opportunity he sees in the GLP-1 space, where eMed plays by offering the weight-loss medications to individuals and through company-sponsored benefits programs. “There’s an epidemic in America, the disease of obesity, and how can we democratize health and wellness in a way that the world has never seen?” Brady said on Fox. According to eMed CEO Linda Yaccarino, who appeared alongside Brady in the Fox Business interview, 60% of people get their health benefits through an employer. As a result, the Miami-based company is going all-in on workplace insurance policies, claiming that GLP-1 medications are the most requested workplace benefit, yet only one in five employers provides them. Brady said that eMed’s goal of getting more employers to cover medications like GLP-1s for their employees aligns with his lifelong focus on being healthy. “I feel like I’ve been in health and wellness for a long time,” the former Patriots quarterback and seven-time Super Bowl champion said. “My entire job was about how well I could take care of my body. My body was truly my asset as a football player.” Brady is getting involved in what could be a profitable venture, especially as the GLP-1 market continues to grow. eMed has already hit a $2 billion valuation after raising $200 million in funding earlier this year, likely fueled by the surge in interest in GLP-1s. “There’s no debate about the way this medicine is working right now, in terms of getting people on their wellness journey started, and then we do a great job of keeping them on that journey,” Brady said. Brady’s interest in the wellness industry started during his playing days, when he launched his supplement brand, TB12, in 2013. Earlier this year, Brady folded TB12 into Nobull Nutrition, becoming the performance and apparel company’s second-largest shareholder. He’s also been affiliated with robotic AI-massage company Aescape.
