It’s now becoming common practice for wellness startups to pull from emerging research, while tapping world-renowned experts to guide them as they innovate new products and services. At the ATN Innovation Summit, Acorn Biolabs co-founder and CEO Dr. Drew Taylor, One Hype Wellness founder and CEO Sat Randhawa and StemRegen founder and chief science officer Christian Drapeau sat down with Athletech News founder and CEO Edward Hertzman to discuss how scientific innovation is fueling their work in health, wellness and longevity. In an increasingly saturated wellness landscape, each company is looking to stand out with proprietary methods that take longevity and health optimization to the next level — all fueled by science. The Intriguing Future of Stem Cells Acorn Biolabs, for one, draws upon stem cell science to propel regenerative medicine forward, taking clients’ own stem cells and repurposing them for hyper-personalized hair and skin treatment, alongside other medical therapies. “We feel like the next currency in healthcare will be cells,” Taylor said, adding, “We’re trying to return ourselves to a previous state of performance” using biology, stem cell research and the patients own cells to heal themselves.” Supplement brand StemRegen is also looking to tap into the healing potential that stem cells can offer, supporting the body’s natural release of stem cells from the bone marrow into the bloodstream. While there can be confusing and conflicting information when it comes to supplements — many consumers question who to trust and what to take — Drapeau cited the importance of drawing upon the top voices in the scientific community who organically bring that credibility to a brand, while trusting your product. “If you’ve got a product that really works, put it in the hands of people,” said. Drapeau believes this is the most effective way to market a brand, as its efficacy speaks for itself. StemRegen’s products are each meant to target a different step in what it calls the body’s “natural repair system,” including blood flow, supporting the vascular system, overall recovery and supporting exercise performance. Bringing the Power of Neuroscience to Consumers Just as Acorn Biolabs and StemRegen are looking to make stem cell therapy more accessible, One Hype Wellness sees neuroscience as the next frontier of mainstream medicine. “We want patients to go into clinics and challenge what they think the minimum standard of care is,” Randhawa said. Randhawa’s company is aiming to disrupt neuroscience with its FDA-approved, FDA-cleared One Brain device that measures brainwaves and collects neurological data. During the panel, Randhawa adorned the device, projecting his own brain waves to demonstrate the product collecting his neurological data. “We’re able to tell you exactly what’s going on with your brain so you can make smarter, data-driven decisions,” Randhawa explained. “It’s an optimization tool, but it’s also a clinical diagnostic tool,” he added. Across the board, brands aren’t just thinking about health optimization and longevity, but are redefining what routine medical care and preventative medicine can look like, while bringing to the market products which used to be considered exclusive wellness resources. Acorn and One Hype, in particular, are focusing on working with credible practitioners and bringing their products into medical settings. Acorn Biolabs currently works with over 200 medical practices across North America, while One Hype has proven popular among professional athletes and is looking to increase its collaboration with trusted doctors.
