Chase Freedom Offers Cash Back on Gym Memberships for 2024
Chase is helping Freedom and Flex carriers make good on their New Year’s resolutions, offering 5% cash back on fitness and club memberships
Whether it’s the cost of a gym membership or equipment expenses, finances represent a common barrier separating people from achieving healthier lifestyles. However, Chase Freedom is aiming to chip away at that.
The credit and banking company announced its new rotating quarterly categories for Q1 2024 earlier this month. Along with grocery stores and self-care or spa services, Chase Freedom and Freedom Flex card carriers will get 5% cash back on their fitness and club memberships.
The feature allows gym goers to save while they sweat, making it a twofold boon for anyone wanting to improve their fitness and wellness, but hesitant to empty out their wallets.
“We’re starting 2024 with a fresh twist on resolutions by introducing new themes for Freedom Flex’s quarterly bonus categories,” said Brent Reinhard, general manager of Chase Freedom. “Think of this as a quarter for YOU! We want our cardmembers to embrace the new and experience the joy of cashbacking while focusing on their health, relaxation and nourishment.”
The 5% cash back applies on purchases up to $1,5000 between grocery stores, self-care or spa services, and fitness club memberships. The bonus period runs from January 1 to March 31, 2024.
Although it’s one of the first to the party, Chase Freedom isn’t the only credit card to experiment with fitness and finance. The U.S. Bank Cash+ Visa Signature Card has a similar quarterly offer, allowing carriers to earn 5% cash back up to $2,000 between two categories, one of which includes gym and fitness centers.
Chase Freedom is calling this feature “A Quarter for You,” and it couldn’t come at a better time, as new members are likely to flood gyms during the upcoming weeks, as improving health and fitness remains one of the most common New Year’s resolutions. IHRSA reported last year that 12% of all gym memberships are purchased in January compared to 8.4% for months in the rest of the year. Additionally, 23% of people also listed “living healthier” as their top resolution in 2022 for that upcoming calendar year.
