The California Fitness Alliance (CFA) has taken a significant step towards promoting gender equality in the workplace by signing the California Equal Pay Pledge. The Pledge is part of the #EqualPayCA initiative aimed at closing the gender pay gap and was led by first partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom, in collaboration with the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, the California Partners Project, and the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency.

The CFA is a group of over 170,000 people employed in more than 4,000 fitness locations across California. While the fitness industry has been leading in terms of pay equity, with women earning 97 cents for every dollar earned by a man, there is still work to be done to fully close the pay gap. On average, women in California earn only 88 cents for every dollar earned by a man, and this wage gap results in a loss of $87 billion each year.

By signing the Equal Pay Pledge, the CFA has committed to conducting an annual company-wide pay analysis, reviewing hiring and promotion processes and procedures to reduce unconscious bias and structural barriers to equality, and promoting equal pay best practices to achieve complete pay equity. This pledge sends a message to all CFA employees and the wider community that pay equality is a priority and should be a priority for all.

Francesca Schuler, the president of the CFA, said, “We are proud to support the California Equal Pay Pledge, affirming the fitness industry’s commitment to promoting pay equity for the women working to make a positive difference in the health of our communities.”

Gina Baski, a board member of the CFA and the CEO of TriFitLA, said, “We hope other industries will join us in signing the Equal Pay Pledge to ensure the pay gap in California is closed for good.” This call to action highlights the importance of equality in the workplace, not only in the fitness industry but across all industries.

In conclusion, the CFA’s commitment to the California Equal Pay Pledge is a significant move towards promoting pay equity and reducing the gender pay gap. The CFA’s efforts set an example for other industries to follow and should inspire companies across the state to make gender equality in the workplace a top priority. By taking a stand, the CFA is leading the way towards a fair and inclusive future for all Californians.
