Peloton’s voluntary recall of its Original Series Bike+ comes as the connected fitness company shifts from a hardware-centric model toward AI-powered coaching and health tech
Peloton announced a voluntary recall of seat posts for certain Original Series Bike+ models sold in the United States and Canada after reports that the part can break during use, posing a fall and injury risk.
Shares of Peloton fell 3.5% to $6.88 Thursday afternoon following news of the recall, just ahead of the company’s Q1 2026 earnings on Thursday.
The recall covers Bike+ units manufactured from December 2019 through July 2022. The affected bikes can be identified by the PL02 model number and serial numbers beginning with “T”, located inside or behind the bike’s front fork or flywheel.
The connected fitness company said it has received three reports of seat posts breaking out of about 833,000 units sold in the U.S. and no reports among 44,800 bikes in Canada. There, the recall was issued in coordination with Health Canada, which noted incidents have occurred in riders taller than 5 feet 10 inches and over 250 pounds.
Owners of recalled units are urged to stop using affected bikes and request a free replacement seat post, which can be self-installed using instructions provided by Peloton.
“The integrity of our products and our members’ well-being are our top priorities,” a Peloton spokesperson said in a statement. “We are taking this opportunity to make replacement seat posts available to all affected Bike+ users and encourage them to contact us to receive the redesigned seat post as soon as possible.”
Owners of impacted bikes can request a free replacement seat post through Peloton’s website. The company said the part can be self-installed at home using instructions provided online, with no service visit required.
The recall applies only to the Original Series Bike+, not the standard Bike or the newer Bike+ model, and does not require returning the full bike. Refunds are not included.
To see if a unit is affected, Peloton members can check the serial number and visit onepeloton.com/bike-plus-replacement/checkout or call (833) 821-0099.
The announcement marks Peloton’s latest safety recall in recent years. In 2023, the company recalled 2.2 million Original Peloton Bikes (model PL-01) over a similar seat post issue.
The recall also comes as Peloton looks to pivot from a hardware-centric focus to AI-driven fitness and health tech partnerships.
Earlier this month, the company announced a collaboration with Twin Health to integrate Peloton’s content library into Twin’s AI digital twin platform, which creates real-time models of users’ metabolism to deliver personalized exercise and nutrition recommendations. The partnership builds on Peloton’s new Peloton IQ system, an AI-powered personalized coaching system, and the launch of the new Peloton Cross Training Series machines.
