Op-Ed: How Swerve Pivoted From In-Studio to Gyms Everywhere

Swerve-from-in-studio-to-gyms

Swerve has refashioned its Flatiron boutique studio into a live-streaming film studio. Every day, multiple times a day, our top industry trainers get on their bikes with you, in front of the camera and teach a class live streamed right to you.

Hitting the spin studio first thing in the morning or right after work used to be one of our favorite parts of the day. But fitness is different now. A global pandemic will do that to an industry. What were we, and others in the fitness industry, to do with an empty spin studio? The energy in a class has always been our thing. We were used to feeling like part of a team, motivated and energized by those around us. And we knew that even if we couldn’t get our whole spin family back in the studio, we could still recreate that feeling—and maybe it could be even bigger.

Jenna Arndt, Head Trainer & VP of Fitness Programming

The idea was simple: Livestream those high-energy classes to where our teammates were. Right now, that means inside select Signature Crunch gym spin studios, and expanding to other gym partners around the country in the new  year. Instead of people coming to us, we’d be going to them. The workout is what we know and love, made up of beat- and power-based cycling challenges that are so fun, we forget we’re getting some serious work in at the same time.

Swerve has refashioned its Flatiron boutique studio into a live-streaming film studio. Every day, multiple times a day, our top industry trainers  get on their bikes with you, in front of the camera and teach a class live streamed right to you. The trainers are bringing the energy of a class without them being in the physical studio — but you’re in the physical studio, and so are other riders, your teammates, around you.

Our goal is to provide the Swerve experience to as many people as possible. It’s not just fun (which it is); it’s also a scientifically proven way of boosting the benefits of fitness. Dr. Wendy Suzuki, an NYU neuroscientist and internationally best-selling author ran a randomized controlled study on Swerve. In it, she found three months of Swerve two to three times a week improved brain functions, including mood, body attitude, motivation to exercise, focus/attention, and recognition memory.

Those are the kind of results that go beyond how you look and tap into how you feel, both during the workout and after it. Our elite trainers are experts in making those feel-good, energy-boosting tracks propel you through a workout. Swerve’s new model means that high-energy, highly talented trainers are bringing their enthusiasm and technique right to where you are. You get their expertise and the feeling of being on a team, at the gym, on a bike next to others riding the same ride.

We’re excited about this new way of Swerving, and equally amped that we’re still able to get all of the healthy results we love from spin. We can’t wait to see you on the bike.
