Life Time Bringing 7-Court Pickleball Complex to NYC

The new location, near Madison Square Garden, is part of Life Time’s methodical expansion in New York City

As Life Time continues its NYC expansion, The Big Apple may soon be rebranded as The Big Pickle.

The luxury athletic and lifestyle operator announced a lease agreement with Vornado Realty Trust to occupy over 53,000 square feet on the first three floors of Penn 1, a 57-story building hosting office tenants.

With the help of Life Time, Penn 1, which is adjacent to Madison Square Garden, will soon serve as an indoor pickleball and high-end athletic hotspot. The new location is part of the health and lifestyle company’s methodical expansion in New York City.

A membership waitlist has already been established due to the anticipated demand of fitness and leisure lifestyle enthusiasts.

“We’re particularly excited to expand our indoor pickleball court offering in Manhattan with what will be the city’s most premier indoor pickleball club featuring seven new courts, lounge seating and a bar — complemented by our luxury athletic club programs and amenities,” said Parham Javaheri, Life Time chief property development officer and executive vice president.

The first phase of the new Life Time location in the Penn district will be open this summer, featuring a new athletic club for office workers, commuters and area residents. Life Time says the club will showcase its group studio and indoor cycle formats, as well as its fitness equipment, recovery space and spa.

The second phase, anticipated early next year, will see seven ground-level pickleball courts and a lounge, seating and bar area as well as dedicated spaces for group training programs such as Alpha, GTX and Dynamic Personal Training.

Earlier this year, Life Time opened in midtown Manhattan at 110 West 56th St. The luxury athletic club operator reported net center memberships up nearly 40,000 in the first quarter and revenue up 30% from Q1 of 2022, beating Wall Street’s expectations.

In addition to Penn 1, Life Time has plans for three new destinations in NYC: The Brooklyn Tower, Brooklyn Crossing and Park Avenue South in 2024.

Life Time also recently partnered with men’s activewear brand Ten Thousand, which signed a three-year sponsorship deal as the exclusive men’s training brand of Life Time’s Dynamic Personal Training team and classes such as Studio, GTX, Alpha and Ultra Fit.

The activewear brand will sponsor Life Time events and launch exclusive products.
