Airbnb Adds Wellness & Workouts
A sign of the (wellness) times: Airbnb is now where you can book a massage, a personal trainer or a full-on wellness, athletic or healthy culinary experience
Airbnb is moving beyond vacation rentals, introducing new categories of services and experiences aimed at adventurous consumers, fitness enthusiasts, and wellness seekers – whether local or traveling.
The platform’s foray into fitness, wellness and self-care services comes as Gen Z and millennials are driving a generational shift toward healthier habits and, according to a recent Bank of America analyst note, are happy to spend their dollars on fitness and leisure-focused activities that encourage real-life connections.
“Seventeen years ago, we changed the way people travel,” Airbnb co-founder and CEO Brian Chesky said. “More than two billion guests later, Airbnb is synonymous with a place to stay. With the launch of services and experiences, we’re changing travel again. Now you can Airbnb more than an Airbnb.”
Airbnb users can now book wellness experiences through Airbnb Services, including personal training sessions, massages, spa treatments, beauty services and chef-prepared meals. The hosts are vetted through Airbnb’s identity verification process and are required to submit relevant licenses and certifications.
For those seeking more immersive activities, Airbnb’s new Experiences category offers everything from cultural and wellness sessions to outdoor excursions and fitness-focused adventures.
The platform is also leaning into curated, athlete-powered moments with Airbnb Originals – described as extraordinary experiences hosted by standout personalities, like playing beach volleyball with Olympian Carol Solberg on Rio’s iconic Leblon Beach or spending a Sunday with NFL star Patrick Mahomes.
