They’re asking ChatGPT to build a workout routine for their goals or using AI-powered nutrition apps to track calories and macronutrients. But even as AI makes fitness and wellness information more accessible than ever, maximizing its capabilities to fit your unique goals is still not as easy as it could be. That’s what inspired celebrity fitness and BODi trainer Joel Freeman and IFBB Bikini World Champion and NPC competitor Megan Freeman to create their just-launched AI-powered platform OptimalFit. “The gap that we saw filling in the fitness world is how to utilize the smart technology that we have,” Joel told Athletech News. “AI is only as good as the data you give it.” The pair wanted their tech to be able to answer the questions people are coming to them for on a daily basis — about training, weight-loss goals, nutrition and more. And they wanted that to feel accessible for anyone, shying away from targeted marketing for certain demographics. “This is for everybody,” he said. At the heart of the app, which launched on October 18, is the AI agent that the OptimalFit team have been training for over a year now with experts in fitness and nutrition, named Olli. After answering routine questions about habits, health, routine and more, the agent begins the process of adapting to the data you feed it, synced with platforms like Apple and Google Health (with plans to expand to include other wearables in the future), such as weight, body fat percentage and workouts. The app also takes into account those on GLP-1s, helping them ensure they’re hitting protein and strength targets. From there, users can prompt Olli to help figure out what to eat at home or restaurants based on macro and calorie goals, or what workouts and movements to focus on. The Freemans emphasized that they’re hoping OptimalFit will be the one-stop platform, creating a more streamlined experience where users don’t have to worry about switching between multiple apps and transferring data to AI chat bots for feedback, which don’t have the specific expertise offered on their app. “I wish from the beginning I had the convenience of having everything in my pocket,” Megan told ATN. She has been using the app to help her hit her macro goals and optimize her training as she prepares for bikini shows. “It’s a good starting point for people. Just the education you get alone off of snapping a photo,” she added. credit: Joel & Mega Freeman The two pointed to OptimalFit’s convenience, which automatically tracks meals based on photos or restaurant menus based in the U.S. and Canada. Users can even take a photo of what’s in their fridge or pantry to make cooking suggestions, or of a gym space or equipment to help build a workout. They believe the seamless nature of the platform will help users be more consistent with their healthy habits and goals. “People quit when they feel it’s too hard,” Joel said. credit: OptimalFit The Freemans have an ambitious vision for OptimalFit, they explained, including partnering with major connected fitness brands like Peloton and BODi. “I want to see “Powered by OptimalFit” under every fitness brand,” Joel said. He also revealed that the app is already FSA/HSA eligible, and they’re currently in talks with a telehealth company to integrate additional insights from lab testing, which will equip Olli to adjust for factors like menopause, high cholesterol, hormone levels and more. Users can join OptimalFit for $19.95/month or $195/year initially, with the cost rising to $24.95/month starting in January.
