The deal establishes “Hybrid Racing” as a recognized discipline within the World Triathlon network, giving Hyrox a serious boost as it pushes for 2032 Olympics inclusion

Hyrox has entered a landmark partnership with World Triathlon, the international federation for triathlon and multisport, marking a major leap toward its Olympic ambitions.

The deal establishes “Hybrid Racing” as a recognized discipline within the World Triathlon network, and installs Hyrox as the exclusive operator of the Official World, Continental and National Championships for elite Hybrid Racing.

World Triathlon will sanction and govern the races, while Hyrox will maintain authority over developing the three contest formats, which combine running and functional fitness workouts. The first category will be Ultimate, which mirrors the existing Hyrox competition structure; Fast, a shorter and higher-intensity version; and Ultra, an extended, endurance-based format.

“From the very beginning, our goal was to build a standardized, global sport that could earn a place on the world’s biggest athletic stage,” said Hyrox co-founder and CEO Christian Toetzke. “Partnering with World Triathlon is a monumental step toward that vision.”

“Hybrid Racing is no longer just a global fitness movement, it is officially on the road to the Olympics,” he added.

Fitness-racing phenomenon Hyrox has been steadily building momentum towards becoming an official sport in the Olympics, evidenced by its rapidly expanding competitions — this year’s New York City event boasted 50,000 athletes across two weekends. The company has set its sights on the 2032 Summer Games in Brisbane, Australia.

For World Triathlon, the deal gives it a gateway into the fast-growing global sport of hybrid fitness racing, with new opportunities to engage an expanding base of Hyrox athletes, including many in the coveted 40+ age range, which has been reported to be Hyrox’s fastest-growing cohort.

“Hybrid Racing is a natural evolution for our movement, and this partnership will not only accelerate the growth of World Triathlon on the global stage, it will open genuine new opportunities for every one of our National Federations to grow participation, engage new audiences, and strengthen our sport at every level,” said World Triathlon president Antonio F. Arimany.
