Search trends and survey data show where interest in weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy is surging in America
Turns out, the GLP-1 boom has zip codes, or, as Levity calls them, “GLP-1 Capitals.”
The clinical weight loss platform analyzed Google Trends across the 100 largest U.S. cities to determine where interest in injectable weight loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro is highest.
The top three? Orlando, Miami and Atlanta, but the surge isn’t limited to Florida and Georgia. Cape Coral, Riverside and Anaheim saw the steepest year-over-year increases in GLP-1 search interest, signaling rising awareness in suburban and West Coast markets.
Nationally, GLP-1 drug searches rose 9.5% in the past year. While searches for Ozempic dropped 26.1%, other weight loss drugs drove much of the growth: Retatrutide increased by 196.1%, Tirzepatide jumped 138.3% and Zepbound climbed 109.2%.
What happens in the GLP-1 Capitals could help set the tone for the fitness and wellness industry. In cities like Orlando, Miami and Atlanta, many people joining gyms or visiting studios are either considering GLP-1s or already losing weight with them, but they’re also looking for guidance on building strength and eating well. For those who eventually taper off the drugs, gyms could fill the gap with programs built around check-ins, maintenance and support to help sustain weight loss.
