The National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) just cut that wait time down for its personal trainers, at least at Life Time. The fitness coaching certification company has struck a deal with the athletic country club operator, guaranteeing an interview to any NASM-Certified Personal Trainer holder who applies for an open entry-level role, so long as they do it via Life Time’s career website and flag their NASM certification status when they apply. NASM points to a hot labor market, citing the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which projects that employment of fitness trainers and instructors will grow faster than the average for all occupations over the next decade, driven by an aging population and a broader push toward preventive health. Hired trainers would coach under Life Time’s Dynamic Personal Training program, which Life Time founder and CEO Bahram Akradi has said is generating “record-breaking” revenue in some clubs month after month. credit: Life Time NASM CEO Mehul Patel called the arrangement “a seamless bridge from certification to employment.” “By ensuring our newly certified trainers have a guaranteed platform to showcase their skills, we are expanding industry access and helping passionate professionals build sustainable, rewarding careers,” Patel said. The deal lands as NASM’s own research shows the trainer job changing underfoot. A report the certification body released in June, drawn from more than 1,100 active U.S. trainers, found the profession tilting toward longevity coaching, GLP-1 guidance and AI-assisted programming. Eighty-eight percent of trainers said longevity had become their clients’ top priority, and nearly three-quarters said they were fielding questions about GLP-1 drugs, according to the report.
