The American Council on Exercise says its new requirement is effective September 13, 2023

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) has introduced a new recertification requirement for ACE Certified Professionals.

According to the non-profit education and certification provider, ACE-certified health coaches and exercise professionals must complete at least one hour of continuing education to meet the eligibility requirements to renew their ACE certifications.

The new requirement is effective September 13, 2023, and the continuing education will center on professional conduct and ethics.

ACE says the new recertification requirement will elevate the standards for its certified exercise and health professionals.

“With more than 90,000 ACE Certified Professionals around the world – who provided approximately 52 million training and coaching sessions and 5.2 million group classes in 2022 – it is essential that they stay up to date on professional conduct and ethical practices throughout their careers to limit client risk and their own professional liability,” said ACE Senior Director of Credentialing and Practice Advancement Todd Galati.

ACE says its certified professionals will be able to petition courses that meet the category requirements but have not yet been reviewed by ACE. Certifications can be renewed before the September 13 deadline without meeting the one-hour education requirement.

The San Diego-based ACE has also created a new resource, the RRAMP Approach, which the council says will help group fitness instructors cultivate a sense of caring, empowerment, and inclusivity.
