From the NFL to MLB, teams and venues are using bi-polar ionization systems to protect athletes, improve performance and enhance health
This story is part of “The Stack,” a weekly column that takes a deep dive into the ways tech companies are shaping the future of fitness and wellness

Professional sports teams are embracing an innovative technology to protect their star athletes from illness and keep them on the field. Bi-polar ionization (BPI) air purification systems, developed by AtmosAir Solutions, are being installed in stadiums, arenas and training facilities to combat airborne contaminants. They are also being used in gyms, homes and offices.

Teams such as the San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Cubs, Dallas Cowboys and Minnesota Vikings, as well as venues such as SoFi Stadium and Crypto.com Arena, are utilizing the clean air technology. These systems, embedded in the HVAC infrastructure, release ions into the air to neutralize harmful airborne particles, including viruses, mold, dust and bacteria. The devices have proven to be 99 percent effective against COVID-19 and include real-time air quality monitoring. The technology is truly a breath of fresh air.

By improving indoor air quality, this decades-old science — first discovered by Albert Einstein — has been reimagined as a cutting-edge solution to safeguard athletes’ health, reduce illness and enhance team performance.

Steve Levine, president and CEO of AtmosAir Solutions, told Athletech News there is no value cap on one’s health and wellness.

“Today, indoor air quality remains top of mind to many consumers and business owners, especially since the pandemic. Building owners, businesses and consumers have an extreme interest in our technology due to the demand for improved indoor environments,” Levine said. “With 99 percent effectiveness on neutralizing viruses and bacteria, it further validates our technology and our mission to make buildings healthier, safer and more sustainable.”

Levine said the company’s BPI units are installed in gyms, spas, hotels and residences and other applications globally.

“From Hilton and Marriott to single-family home residences, our technology is making buildings and residences healthier by neutralizing airborne contaminants and more sustainable by reducing energy consumption and improving air quality overall,” he said. “With our real-time air quality monitoring systems, building operators and residential owners can see their indoor air quality 24/7.”

The CEO said the company has more than 12,000 air purification and monitoring systems installed in 10,000 locations worldwide.

R4 Technologies Unveils New AI to Decomplexify Decision-Making

R4 Technologies recently launched a next-generation AI solution “built to power decisions, simplify complexity and elevate human potential” across industries and communities. The Cross-Enterprise Management (XEM) platform is designed to deliver “an intelligent layer of coordination, bridging fragmented systems, aligning human and machine decision-making, and driving measurable outcomes in weeks, not years.”

The company said that at its core, XEM is made to get “the right hands and left hands working together, within and across business functions, to solve real-world challenges such as hunger, waste and inefficiency. XEM is configurable AI software as a service, so you don’t have to build it.” Applications include boosting retail revenue, reducing supply chain inefficiencies and cutting down on waste.

But the platform can be used for much more ambitious purposes, such as “building healthier communities, improving food security, enhancing safety and supporting daily needs.” The platform can also be used in national defence and security by “anticipating obstacles and enabling faster, smarter responses to safeguard people and infrastructure.”

The brains behind XEM are the same folks who founded Priceline.com, the pioneering e-commerce company.

Paul Breitenbach, co-founder of Priceline and founder and CEO of R4 Technologies, said of the platform that true success “is measured not only by business performance, but by the human impact we create. With XEM, we didn’t just redesign AI, we redefined it. This is the new AI: one that decomplexifies data so people can act faster, lead with clarity and drive meaningful change.”

The company said XEM differs from traditional AI because it is intuitive, scalable and accessible.

AT&T Launches Nationwide 5G RedCap Network

The 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) network of AT&T  became available across  the entire United  States after the company  announced its nationwide deployment. The advanced network now reaches more than 200 million points of presence (POPs)  throughout the U.S. to support next-generation devices that consume less power and provide cost-effective connectivity for mid-speed applications.

For the fitness and wellness industry, it’s a big win.

The RedCap technology provides Internet of Things (IoT) products  such as wearables and healthcare devices, and  XR glasses and industrial sensors and fleet management tools with optimized 5G capabilities through simplified components and enhanced efficiency. The collaboration between AT&T  and module providers  Semtech and Telit Cinterion enables widespread IoT innovation through their RedCap technology.

The commercial availability of  Franklin Wireless’ RG350  mobile hotspot marks the first 5G RedCap-powered device to receive network certification. The device uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X35 5G Modem-RF System to deliver reliable 5G  performance in a compact design, which provides AT&T customers with a versatile solution for remote work and travel, and on-the-go  connectivity.

AT&T said it is leading the market through its expanding  RedCap network and  increasing selection of compatible  devices, which enables  businesses and consumers to transform their  5G technology usage  for connection and  innovation.
