Genesis Health Clubs Acquires Pelican Athletic Club in 9th Deal of 2025

Genesis continues to expand nationwide, this time adding a 175,000-square-foot facility in Mandeville, Louisiana, to its portfolio
Genesis Health Clubs has added Pelican Athletic Club in Mandeville, Louisiana, to its growing portfolio, the fitness operator announced on social media, introducing the facility as Genesis Health Clubs – PAC.
The deal marks the chain’s 78th location nationwide, its third in Louisiana and its ninth acquisition of 2025.
“Joining Genesis connects this incredible club and its members to a growing national network while marking an exciting new chapter in Louisiana,” Genesis Health Clubs president and owner Rodney Steven II shared on LinkedIn.
The 175,000-square-foot facility is one of the largest fitness destinations to join Genesis, featuring two lap pools, a wading pool and splash pad, 14 outdoor tennis courts, as well as indoor/outdoor pickleball. It also boasts expansive fitness floors and multiple studios for yoga, Pilates, cycling and group classes, youth programs, physical therapy, CrossFit, sports training, spa services, childcare, a café and social spaces.
The deal follows a busy start to the year for the privately owned, Kansas-based operator. In March, Genesis acquired eight Esporta Fitness locations from LA Fitness parent Fitness International LLC, a move that expanded its footprint into Arkansas and Louisiana for the first time.
Beyond acquisitions, Genesis is also investing in real estate and lifestyle projects, recently breaking ground on a 108-unit apartment complex at the Genesis Sports Complex in Goddard, Kansas.
The development sits alongside The Sandbox restaurant and pickleball venue, 10 baseball and softball diamonds, the Blast Off Bay Indoor Waterpark, a Genesis Health Club and a Hampton Inn Hotel.
