F45 Partners With Spartan Race To Create Custom Workouts

The high-intensity, 45-minute boutique fitness workout concept will help teams train for and compete in Spartan races

F45 Training is ready to train fitness enthusiasts to prepare for Spartan races, having just announced a partnership with the endurance racing brand.

The functional full-body fitness brand will create Spartan Race-themed workouts for its studios and events as part of the deal.

“We are excited to partner with new health, wellness, and fitness brands to add value for our members and operators,” said Tom Dowd, CEO of F45 Training. “Both F45 and Spartan have like-minded goals to inspire through team training and competition. Partnerships like this are the type of win/win relationships we are working to expand.”

Dowd was appointed CEO of F45 at the end of March, with Mark Wahlberg named chief brand ambassador.

The collaboration between F45 and Spartan, which owns Tough Mudder, Deka Fit and Spartan Trail, has a mutually beneficial, two-fold approach to reaching fitness consumers, encouraging F45 teams to form, train for and compete in Spartan races.

The Wahlberg-backed fitness brand will create special programs to prepare Spartan racers in addition to themed workouts. Being that there are 750 F45 studios in the U.S. and 125 Spartan events each year, both companies say they look forward to the cross-collaboration.

“It’s a perfect brand to partner with since both of our programs test several levels of fitness, and F45 workouts are the perfect way to train for Spartan races,” said Brian Killingsworth, CMO for F45 Training. “Our members excel in a team environment and the workouts are designed to hit different body parts, which is exactly what you need to prepare for a Spartan race no matter if you’re a beginner or an elite athlete.”

Local F45 studios will be at Spartan obstacle course races, with coaches leading racers through a dynamic warmup session before starting the race. Coaches will also be able to become Spartan SGX certified, incorporating training workshops at their studios. The functional fitness brand also points out an additional partnership perk, with opportunities for groups of F45 members to have designated heat times at select races.

The collaboration also extends to digital platforms, with F45 members offered the chance to track workouts and nutrition on the Spartan Challenge App.

“Joining forces with F45 is a perfect synergy of grit, strength, and determination,” said Spartan Race founder Joe De Sena. “Together, we’re breaking barriers, conquering obstacles, and transforming lives. Get ready to unleash your inner warrior and redefine what’s possible. The journey awaits!”

As for F45’s financials, the fitness brand recently delayed its filings, announcing it needs additional time to prepare its 10-Q form for Q1 of 2023. The company received a non-compliance notice from the New York Stock Exchange last month.

F45 recently tapped Uberall, a Berlin-based marketing platform, to increase its digital marketing presence. The fitness company reported increased map and search impressions since working with Uberall, stating that the platform will assist F45 in its goal of rapidly scaling over the next two years.

The fitness company is also pivoting to boost its merchandise offerings, teaming up with Bensussen Deutsch & Associates (BDA) to create a new line of F45-branded accessories and clothing to be sold on its website and at its fitness studios.
