Longevity platform Hundred Health will provide personalized biomarker insights and 100-day plans to help firefighters in the Golden State monitor risks linked to carcinogen exposure, stress and cardiovascular disease

The health of California’s firefighters is under near constant stress, as these men and women routinely put themselves in the most dangerous situations imaginable all to protect the people, property and wildlife of a state increasingly under threat from larger, more frequent wildfires.

A new initiative aims to take a proactive approach to protecting and improving the wellness and longevity of these first responders, through a partnership between integrated health platform Hundred Health and CAL Fire Local 2881, one of the largest fire departments in the U.S. that represents over 10,000 firefighters in California.

Hundred Health will roll out its platform, which offers lab tests and personalized health insights, to the thousands of CAL Fire firefighters and their families, providing personalized 100-day action plans that can help reduce preventable risks linked to conditions often faced on the job, while also improving longevity.

“The physical toll of firefighting — including exposure to carcinogens, extreme heat stress and sleep deprivation — requires a clinical level of precision in health monitoring,” said Dr. Matt Rahn. “This program allows us to bridge the gap between the front lines and the lab.”

Facing extreme heat, frequent exposure to toxic chemicals, unpredictable conditions and severe physical and mental stress regularly, firefighters often face an average life expectancy 10 years shorter than ordinary Americans due to cardiovascular disease.

“By bringing Hundred Health to our 10,000-plus members, we are moving beyond basic care and giving our firefighters the advanced tools they need to monitor their health in real-time, reduce their risks, and ensure they can enjoy a long, healthy life after their service is complete,” said CAL Fire Local 2881 president Tim Edwards.

The Hundred Health platform will provide firefighters and their families a way to track recovery, manage stress and support longevity, marrying data-driven insights on key health metrics with tailored guidance.

“For the first time, the proactive health system once reserved for billionaires is being deployed at scale for the heroes who run into burning buildings,” said Hundred Health founder and CEO Tyler Smith, who led the platform out of stealth mode last year.
