Amazon Layoffs Hit Fitness Group
The tech giant has slashed nearly 200 jobs in its fitness and fashion groups, while its telehealth services segment recently expanded its anti-aging and wellness services
Amazon is laying off roughly 200 employees in its North America stores division, which includes fitness and fashion.
According to Business Insider, which viewed messages posted on an internal Amazon Slack channel, a group of San Diego employees known as ‘F2’ were recently impacted by the cuts.
“We’ve adjusted parts of our North America Stores team because we believe this structure will better enable us to deliver on our priorities,” an Amazon spokesperson confirmed in a widely reported statement. “As part of these changes, we’ve made the difficult decision to eliminate a small number of roles, and we’re committed to supporting affected employees through their transition.”
In 2023, the tech giant sunset its Amazon Halo wearable fitness trackers and issued pink slips to employees in its Halo health division, just three years after introducing the fitness wearable to the market.
Elsewhere in the Amazon ecosystem, the tech giant has been expanding its signature One Medical division, recently introducing telehealth services focused on beauty, wellness and sexual health. The offerings include free medication delivery and upfront pricing for Prime members for anti-aging skincare treatments, men’s hair loss solutions, erectile dysfunction treatments and eyelash growth products—all at an affordable monthly cost.
