Disruptive Fitness Brand Legacy To Open Flagship Studio in Miami

The brainchild of Manning Sumner, who has trained the likes of Kevin Durant and James Harden, Legacy offers an innovative take on traditional group fitness

With a distinct ‘private training within a group class’ model that ups the ante on community building as well as results, boutique fitness brand Legacy will open its seventh Legacy studio location, in Miami’s Little River neighborhood in the fall of 2024.

Founded in 2008, Legacy is the brainchild of Manning Sumner, who has trained the likes of Kevin Durant, James Harden and other professional athletes along with A-List celebrities.

Redefining Group Fitness

Driven to motivate members to reach their maximum potential, Sumner designed Legacy’s signature Partner Interval Training (P.I.T.) system, which pairs individuals together to push, support and assist each other through each workout, using a train and rest format where when one partner trains the other rests and vice versa. Each pair gets its own coach and joins other coach/pair threesomes in a combination of HIIT and resistance training to increase speed, power, endurance and metabolic rate.

Sumner says the P.I.T. concept grew out of a lightbulb moment he had when he double-booked PT clients – one being the late Marion Barber, a former Dallas Cowboy running back, and the other a woman trying to lose weight. He trained them together using the same workout for both but modifying weights and other aspects, and watched as they pushed each other, exchanged high-fives and cheered each other on.

“Our goal has always been to redefine fitness and create spaces that empower and foster community,” says Sumner. “We are not here to blend in; we’re here to stand out.”

More Than a Just Fitness Studio

Legacy is also where Sumner’s ‘No Days Off’ movement plays out, which exemplifies his tenet to take no days off on yourself or your community. Turning the tenet into a lifestyle brand, Sumner also founded No Days Off Apparel and No Days Off Premium Water, the official Premium Water of the Miami Heat and Kaseya Center.

The new 12,000-square-foot multi-use facility will serve as the flagship headquarters for both Legacy and No Days Off.

“This location is a testament to our commitment and relentless drive to push boundaries,” says Sumner. “We are not just building a gym; we are building a hub for personal growth, wellness, and community connection.”

The space will feature a cutting-edge sound system, soundproof and tech-savvy coworking stations, a retail store and a 30 x 15-foot video board where fight nights and sporting events will be streamed.

Recovery amenities include a smoothie bar, saunas, cold plunges and a 1,000-square-foot physical therapy space operated by Force Physical Therapy.

Eyeing Expansion

The signature No Days Off neon sign that was first seen in Sumner’s original Legacy Wynwood location and has become one of Miami’s most Instagrammed pieces will hang on the ceiling of the main training area. Mirrored by the same quote on the turf, the sign acts as a centerpiece of the gym, reminding members of their commitment to themselves and their fitness journey.
