Peloton has introduced Lanebreak, merging fitness with gaming…and it looks like the company has a hit

After a rocky start to the new year, Peloton finally has some exciting news to share. Peloton has unveiled a new innovative experience with Lanebreak, an immersive, gamified workout that includes exclusive David Bowie remixes.

Peloton says the new gaming-inspired fitness offering will add variety to workout routines. Riders will be able to control a wheel-like avatar along a track and customize the lane and resistance setting. Different levels are available based on playlists and workout types as riders work towards hitting goals, or ‘Moments,’ like sustained cadence. To maintain a competitive edge, each lane features a leaderboard.

Peloton says new classes will be regularly added.

All-access Peloton members with a Peloton Bike or Bike+ can find Lanebreak in the ‘More Rides’ tab.

Preliminary reviews for Peloton getting gamified with Lanebreak have been overwhelmingly positive.

“@onepeloton’s newest product, Lanebreak, is the best I’ve tried this year. The gamified riding is a fantastic mix of utility (best workout in months) & unique experience (like Guitar Hero’s heyday). Know they’ve had a rough recent run, but wow… this could be big,” writes one user

“Well this is genius, @onepeloton. It’s incredibly motivating to play #LaneBreak if you’re a competitive person who hates losing…LOVED IT,” shares another.

The interactive fitness company says that the Peloton experience has been inspired by gaming since the beginning, with leaderboards and stats.

“With Lanebreak, we take this a step further, offering members an interactive experience that challenges them and rewards them in real time for their actions. We are particularly excited about this as it exposes an audience who may not be as comfortable or familiar with gaming-inspired experiences, to how powerful it can be as a motivator,” Peloton shared on its blog.

Peloton says members can expect to see new challenges introduced in Lanebreak and that the company is exploring new platforms and formats.
