Propel, Michael B. Jordan Promote Access to Fitness & Wellness

The PepsiCo sports drink and Jordan will look to inspire and unlock barriers to fitness and wellness in communities across the nation

Propel Fitness Water has teamed up with actor, director and producer Michael B. Jordan for a multi-city project that supports fitness organizations promoting exercise and wellness within their communities.

The Propel Your City Project initiative is kicking off in Los Angeles, Detroit, Houston and Atlanta this summer to connect communities through movement, including activities like running clubs, organized hikes, yoga and meditation.

The mission is part of Propel’s ongoing partnership with Jordan.

“Fitness has been an integral part of my life, but finding my community, and the sense of belonging within it, is what helped get me where I am today,” said Jordan. “That’s the experience we’re trying to unlock for others with the Propel Your City Project. We’re supporting those that are doing the work in their communities by creating spaces for people to connect and feel seen, and enabling others to reap the mental, emotional, and physical benefits of movement.”

The Propel Your City Project is helping WalkGoodLA, a Black and Brown-led community wellness organization, secure a permanent, centralized studio space for its community to gather in Los Angeles. The project will also expand The Trap Studio’s Yin Nights in Detroit, which fuses music, dance and yoga, and will double its equipment for loan and ensure its programming becomes more widely available.

Propel Your City will also launch the “Movement & Mindfulness Experience,” a new monthly event alongside Houston’s BLK Beetles, which creates wellness experiences that focus on equity and restoration for the BIPOC community. Additionally, the project is partnering with Atlanta Run Club to host and support weekly track events in Atlanta, meant to empower diverse runners with free running groups and meet-ups.

“We were inspired by the way the Propel Your City Project fitness organizations harness the power of movement to tackle barriers that make exercisers feel excluded,” said Emily Boido, senior director of fitness marketing at Gatorade.

Propel, which was introduced by PepsiCo in 2000, debuted a new look earlier this year to emphasize its focus on fitness and connection to Gatorade, adding a lightning bolt to its packaging.
