The sleep fitness company has launched Biological Age, a new feature developed in collaboration with Johnson’s longevity platform, Immortals. The tool analyzes biometric data collected by Eight Sleep’s Pod alongside connected fitness data — and, for some U.S. users, medical records — to estimate a person’s biological age and pace of aging. Unlike biological-age tests that provide a snapshot based on bloodwork or other measurements, Eight Sleep’s version updates every seven days, drawing on the Pod’s nightly tracking of heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, sleep stages and sleep duration. Users can also connect fitness trackers through platforms such as Apple Health, adding exercise and activity data. A group of U.S. beta members can now connect medical records through HealthEx, giving Eight Sleep access, with users’ consent, to information including medications, health conditions and lab results. “Most people know the Pod for its ability to automatically cool and heat their bed to improve sleep,” Eight Sleep co-founder and CEO Matteo Franceschetti said. “But every night, the same system is also measuring how their body is functioning.” The launch offers a clearer picture of Eight Sleep’s push to turn its smart-bed technology into a broader health platform. Earlier this year, Eight Sleep raised $50 million at a $1.5 billion valuation, with the company saying it would use its massive trove of sleep and physiological data to move deeper into predictive health. At the time, Franceschetti declared that “sleep was just the beginning,” outlining plans to take Eight Sleep’s health intelligence “beyond the bedroom and into every dimension of personal health.” Eight Sleep says it has now captured more than 1 billion hours of biometric data through its Pod. For the new feature, the company trained a health foundation model on a more focused dataset spanning over 100,000 participants and 2.7 million hours of biometric data. The feature produces two core measurements: “Speed of Aging,” which estimates how quickly a person is aging relative to calendar time, and “Biological Age,” which translates that pace into an age that can be compared with their chronological age. Johnson, who has built a large following around his highly measured approach to slowing the aging process, said Eight Sleep’s Pod has been part of his own data-tracking regimen for years. “I track thousands of biomarkers to determine my speed of aging,” Johnson said. “The Pod has been helping me gather that data for years. It’s convenient that all you have to do to get the data is sleep in comfort.” The collaboration comes as Johnson continues expanding his footprint in the booming longevity market. Last year, his Blueprint startup raised $60 million from a high-profile investor group that included Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Saquon Barkley, Steve Aoki and several prominent tech entrepreneurs and investors.
