Powerhouse Gym commemorates half a century of fitness with a convention that highlights its growth and success, featuring awards for outstanding achievements in training and social media engagement

Powerhouse Gym recently marked its 50th anniversary by hosting a convention on September 12, 2024, at the Planet Hollywood resort in Las Vegas. The event brought together over 200 attendees, including gym owners, managers, corporate leaders, fitness celebrities and vendors to celebrate the brand’s milestone.

Among the attendees were 10-time Ms. Olympia Iris Kyle and 212-Masters Mr. Olympia Hidetada Yamagishi, who were recognized for their achievements in personal training and social media engagement on behalf of Powerhouse Gym in Las Vegas. The award for International Gym of the Year was presented to Powerhouse Gym, Japan, which operates 10 locations with plans for 30 more. Additionally, Powerhouse Gym, Saddlebrook, NJ, was honored as Powerhouse Gym of the Year, with four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler also present at the event.

Henry W. Dabish, CEO of Powerhouse Gym, addressed the audience, highlighting the company’s strategy to leverage emerging trends among Gen Z and Millennial fitness enthusiasts, particularly their preference for strength training.

Keynote Speaker Dan Lier

“Powerhouse Gyms are built with larger free weight and plate-loaded areas,” Dabish said. “Our price point competitors were built with heavy cardio areas and small free weight areas, which goes against everything the younger generation wants.”

Dabish also discussed the growing importance of recovery solutions, noting significant investments made by the Novi, Michigan, location in cold plunges, infrared saunas, hyperbaric chambers and red light therapy.

William K. Dabish, co-founder of Powerhouse Gym, emphasized the strength of the Powerhouse Gym community.

“The Powerhouse Gym family is stronger than ever. The convention is a great opportunity to network with fellow Powerhouse Gym owners, vendors and our corporate office, to share best practices and celebrate everything we have accomplished together,” he stated.

He expressed confidence in the brand’s potential for both domestic and international growth, noting plans to expand its global presence, including a recent deal to open a location in Kuwait.

Founded in 1974 by brothers William and Norman Dabish in the back of their father’s corner store, Powerhouse Gym has evolved into an international fitness empire with over 1.2 million members worldwide. Today, the brand boasts 302 locations across 24 states and 18 countries, known for its motivating atmosphere and commitment to providing results-oriented fitness facilities.
